With this post, we wanted to share a brief recap of the NextGreatTrip spring vacation to Baja - March 22-29, 2014. What an incredible week it was with a wonderful group of travelers experiencing the new and up-and-coming destination of Loreto on the Sea of Cortez.
Pre-Departure Arrival and Hangar Gathering
On the morning of March 22, 2014, guests arrived to valet parking, a warm breakfast, bloody mary's & mimosas at Centennial Airport's XJet hangar.
Their bags were whisked away to the plane, while they enjoyed the opportunity to meet and converse with fellow travelers about the week of relaxation and adventure ahead.
After an enjoyable gathering with friends old and new, guests walked onto the tarmac and boarded their 50-seat jet bound non-stop for Loreto - a quaint town set against the Sea of Cortez.
On board, the adults enjoyed delicious food, cocktails and conversation, while the 20+ kids delighted in a special treat of chocolate chip cookies.
The plane arrive in Loreto before we knew it - ahead of our scheduled arrival time. We had pre-arranged for expedited customs & ground transportation to get everyone on the beach as quickly as possible.
Arrival & Welcome Beach Party
Upon quickly exiting customs & immigration, guests were greeted by our local staff with coolers filled with cold Coca Cola, bottled water & Coronas. They were quickly on their way to the villas, beaches & swimming pools of Loreto Bay.
After a few hours of enjoying pool time and warm surroundings, everyone gathered for a neighborhood scavenger hunt followed by a beach-side party complete with delicious food, drinks and a renowned local Mariachi band.
Beaches, Bridges, Lagoons and Pools!
With 3 pools and a swimmable beach, there was no shortage of options for relaxation throughout the week. The NextGreatTrip staff orchestrated a sandcastle building contest for the kids, while adults enjoyed fresh fish tacos on the beach. With fresh vegetables farmed just a few hours away, the Pico de Gallo and Guacamole were to die for.
Adventurous souls ventured to the nearby lagoon inlet to jump of the signature Loreto Bay bridge.
The Incredible Sea Life of Loreto Bay
Because Loreto Bay is home to the largest national marine park in Mexico (which prevents commercial fishing), the sea life and fishing is world-class. Whales, dolphins and sea lions abound, while the edible fish are eager to take the bait!
Recreational sport fishing doesn't get much better than it is in Loreto Bay.
'Panga' boats picked up our guests on the beach and they spent hours reeling in endless numbers of yellowtail, red snapper, and triggerfish. Guests took their catch to local restaurants to have it prepared to their liking - whether sashimi, ceviche or grilled with special local sauces.
Kids Club = Fun for kids + Relaxation for adults
NextGreatTrip arranged 'Kids Club' throughout the week to allow parents to enjoy Loreto at their leisure. Our staff and pre-arranged babysitters had fun with kids swimming, playing 'hide and go seek', and participating in various beach games. Parents enjoyed much deserved alone time while their kids had a blast at a beach side home converted into kids clubhouse.
Back in Denver Before We Knew It (a Little Too Soon)!
After a week that went by way too quickly, we were back on the plane en-route to Denver. We can't wait to get back to Loreto with you soon!
From everyone at NextGreatTrip, thank you endlessly for an incredible week of fun, adventure and new friends.
